When are the sirens activated?
When a Thunderstorm
Warning with Tornado Watch is issued the sirens are set
off for 1 minute. During a Tornado Warning, the sirens continue to
go off until warning is over.
What to do when you hear the activated sirens?
When the
sirens are activated, you should go inside and turn on a television or radio for
more information. You may also wish to have a NOAA weather alert radio
available.
If a Tornado Warning is issued, you should:
move to a pre-designated shelter in a home or building, such as a basement.
move to an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor and get under a sturdy piece of furniture if underground shelter is not available.
stay away from windows.
not try to outrun a tornado in your car, instead leave it immediately.
lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression if caught outside or in a vehicle.
leave mobile homes; even if tied down offer little protection from tornados.
