  CAR SEAT INSPECTIONS   QUICK LINKS

The Brownsburg Fire Territory has several certified child passenger safety technicians available to inspect car seats and educate parents/caregivers about car seat safety.

All inspections are by appointment. Please email smartindale@brownsburgfire.org or call Stephanie Martindale at 317-852-1190 ext 107 for more information or to schedule an appointment. For an inspection, please bring the car seat and instruction booklet, vehicle and owner's manual, and the child. For expectant parents, car seats can be inspected prior to your new arrival.

This is not a program for free car seats, but an education program for safety. The technicians will inspect car seats and educate parents/caregivers about car seat safety. If a car seat is recommended for replacement and the parent/caregiver can't afford a new seat and is receiving government assistance; a replacement seat may be given. Donations are requested to assist in the purchasing of replacement seats.

Car Seat Inspections can be done at all three fire stations and headquarters.

Appointments are recommended. Inspection appointments are scheduled on the 2nd & 3rd Friday of each month from 9am to 5pm and the 2nd & 3rd Saturday from 9am to noon.
Here are a few tips
  • Choose the car seat that fits your child, your vehicle and you will use correctly everytime.
  • Check the manufacturer's directions for proper weight and use of the car seat.
  • Children should remain rear facing as long as possible.
  • Children should remain in a 5-point harness as long as possible.
  • The back seat is the safest position for children.
  • Backless boosters should only be used in seating positions with head rests.
  • Safety belts should be worn low on the hips, across the chest, and snug.
  • It isn't just a law; it is an easy way to prevent injuries to infants and children.
